Exercise: Level Design 2D
Working conditions: School project, solo, with a deadline after two month (one month for patterns and another month for the rest).
Software / sites used: Illustrator, Word
Year : 2019
This level on Illustrator, accompanied by its document of intentions, is the result of a 2D Level Design exercise. in the 1st year of the "Lead Game Designer" training at ISART Digital Paris.
We first had to choose a game with a 2D platformer gameplay on which we would work to observe and schematize in Illustrator 5 action patterns that would be broken down into 5 different difficulties, with a limited number of Level Design bricks. So I chose Kirby Adventure Wii, being familiar with the license and having a copy of the game at home to be able to better observe certain behaviors and actions.
We then had to schematize a level on Illustrator (image 1) by following an imposed difficulty and rhythm curve and by creating situations only with the patterns previously created, but that we could modify so that they are more in accordance with our level (image 2) . This level had to have a specific identity, which we had to explain in the intent document that we had to write in Word (image 3).
You can download the Illustrator document here and the intent document here or by clicking on their screenshots opposite, then by clicking on the link.
